The smart fans only need be installed in areas/ rooms that do not get desired temperature due to poor airflow coming from the vents or registers. Contrary to other competing technologies, ie. automated or smart dampers, the number of the devices depends on the number of areas/ rooms, where you are not experiencing the comfort you expect.
No. Smart cocoon booster fan is a “Do It Yourself” device and can be installed by anyone.
When you purchase the device, there is an instruction manual inside the package. You can also find additional information on our website.
This short video walks you through the installation process.
The fan ID is a combination of 6 digit number and letters printed on the fan body
Yes, you can. With the help of spring brackets, ceiling installation is also possible.
Yes, you can use the device for the wall vents as long as you can secure the device to the back of the grill. One of the methods some of our clients used is to remove the vent grill, and then attaching the fan to the back of the grill using zip ties.
Please reset the device as follows:
1- Using a thin object (such as a pin or paperclip), press the reset button located through a hole on the control box.
2- Press and hold the button for 3 seconds.
3- You will see the fans start and stop 2 times.
4- Then setup the app.
FEATURES
Yes, the fan speed is adjustable on the Smartcocoon app on your smartphone. You can also select between different operating modes; On/Off, Eco and Auto which adjusts the fan power on its own to achieve the utmost comfort based on the set temperature.
The device needs to be plugged into the nearest power outlet in the room.
The noise is less than what you hear when someone whispers to your ear.
SmartCocoon Smart Booster fan size 4x10, produces a noise level of 28dBA at default RPM, and whispering noise level is 30dBA and conventional refrigerators generate more than 40dBA on average.
The fans used in this device are heavy duty/ industrial grade fans designed for a minimum of 50,000 hours of operation. They generate 80 CFM of air flow, which is more than enough for an average size room, while having a very low level of noise (only 29 dBA).
Compared to smart vents, our technology costs a lot less, you don’t have to cover many registers to be able to increase the airflow in certain rooms / areas. When you use booster fans you draw the air into whatever environment you need to.
The installation process in majority of the cases does not require professional help. Most importantly, booster fans provide a considerable amount of energy saving as it reduces the loss of energy in the ducting system by not trapping the air in them.
It is a scientifically proven fact that blocking one vent does not necessarily redirect the air where you need it.
a) When one vent is blocked, the airflow automatically moves to the closest vent which usually is not the one that needs more airflow. For instance, blocking a vent with high airflow in the basement does not direct more air to the second floor. But it may cause more airflow in the main floor vents and pushes the air further to the second floor, and then more vents need to be blocked.
b) Blocking can damage your HVAC system since it will disrupt the airflow and will affect the system's "temperature rise". This can cause the system to overheat in wintertime and freezing in the summertime.
Our smart booster fan uses an A.I. algorithm that controls the unit. Our algorithm allows the device to actively and intelligently boost and control the airflow in sync with the main HVAC system and creates desired temperature for the whole room.
The booster fan:
1- Helps in reaching the desired temperature sooner, so the HVAC system shuts off faster, resulting in: up to 70% decrease in HVAC operation time
2- Diverts the air in the typical closed-loop ducting systems from one room to another when a sudden drop or rise of temperature is sensed
3- Sucks out the energized trapped air from the ducting system and reduces the significant loss that inherently happens in long duct loops
It is impossible to do any harm to your system by using our device, here's why:
Furnace overheating in the wintertime or freezing "cooling coil" in the summertime only happens by BLOCKING the airflow.
For instance, when someone tries to direct more airflow to the second floor by using dampers, to block vents on the main floor.
Theoretically, BLOCKING more than 30% of the vents can disrupt the airflow and will affect the system's "temperature rise" which can cause system to overheat or freez.
However, the SmartCocoon booster fan will have the opposite effect. Using our device helps the ducting system regulate the airflow and actively boost and direct the conditioned air to where it's needed. Even when the fans stop working, they cannot block the air completely. In other words, it is impossible to do any harm to your system by using our device.
Also, since SmartCocoon booster fans are constantly monitoring each zone/room temperature, they know when to boost or limit the flow based on the set temperature defined by the user. This can create near to perfect desired temperature for each zone/room without any modification on the main system or spending a substantial amount of cash on conventional HVAC zoning
SmartCocoon Smart Booster fan, saves 30% on HVAC energy consumption, on average.
Here's what makes that possible:
Troubleshooting
- Take the device close to the router, plug it in and press and hold the reset button (the red button on top of the device) for 4 seconds and let it go. Wait until you see solid green and blinking blue. It is fine to occasionally see the red LED at this stage.
- On your phone, close the app and make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4G, Wi-Fi network and you have the Wi-Fi credential in hand.
- Open the app and, through the process, create the room you would like to add the device in. Go inside the room. Hit the “add” device button and go through the process.
Please note:- The fan ID is "SC0_" followed by 6 digits or letters printed on the device. If you are using an android it will be detected automatically but on iOS phones, it needs to be entered manually.
- Do not close the app and keep the phone close to the device while going through the setup process
- Make sure you allow the app to access your location “while using the app”. If you have already denied the permission, the app will not move forward with adding the device. In this case, you should either clear the app cash or simply delete and install the app again and this time allows the app to have access to your location.

Compatibility
No. The device works with all type of thermostat, Smart or conventional. It automatically connects to your existing thermostats, syncs itself with your heating and cooling system using its proprietary AI algorithm.
The effectiveness of the fans in terms of increasing the HVAC system efficiency has nothing to do with the type of the thermostat you're using. The key function of the fan is to boost the air into the problem area while the main system is working which has does the job on it's own using an array of sensors and the smart AI algorithm behind it.
